Hi Sean and all others who read this! Fall 2019 English 486
was fantastic and basically this is all the reasons why I believe this to be true.
The text presentations, I loved them. I originally thought
it sounded boring. After completing all three and looking back realizing how excited
I was to read and learn how to become a better educator through these texts,
that was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the in class small group discussions talking
about our blogs and the NES text. I feel like some of my most valuable learning
came from comparing myself to others here. I loved every bit of the text
presentations and all the work and love that went into sharing how to be a
better teacher from my classmates. I loved hearing everyone’s perspectives and
comments on the different methods purposed. My favorite text of my own was
Reading Across Diverse Societies because of how well it covered the practice
over theory. My favorite area in general was definitely the visual literacy/graphic
novel text presentations. I believe this one was my favorite because it
introduced me to a world I have never really been opened to before and better
yet, it gave me ideas on how to teach it. Overall, I think this course has
majorly influenced and changed how I view myself as a teacher. Like I said in
my content portfolio snippet – I had a very strong idea of what I wanted to be
and what I wanted my classroom to look like. After listening and learning through
so many presentations on educational texts and meeting so many other educators
and their views and ideas who I am and who I will be in the future changed
drastically. I always knew collaboration would be important but after this I can’t
imagine not talking all the time to the people are dealing with the same things
as me. The amount of great conversation and friendship building that took place
both during class hours and outside are one thing I will carry with me forever.
